  On Feb 6, Facebook and Google launched a project in Paris to deal with fake news stories that might appear around the upcoming French presidential election in April and May.

  The project, called Cross Check, will help check news stories that are shared among French voters. At least 17 French news organizations are also taking part in the project, including French daily Le Monde, Buzz Feed News and Agence France-Presse. It will offer users the choice to identify and flag news stories as either “real”, “satire (諷刺)” or “fake”.

  Misleading stories and fake news have become so common on social media during major elections around the world. Facebook in particular was criticized during the US presidential election last year for allowing false news to be widely spread across its platform.

  Fake news may even have affected the election. According to a new survey carried out by the Pew Research Center in December, about two in three US adults said fake news stories caused a great deal of confusion about the basic facts of current issues and events. Nearly a quarter of US adults say they have shared a fake news story.

"Tango-equipped phones can understand the physical space by measuring the distance between the phone and objects in the real world.” tech site Android Authority explained.

  Tango is thought to be the next leap forward in tech, and dozens of companies have already created innovative (創(chuàng)新) new apps for it. Measuring walls or curtains in your home, viewing the solar system in your bedroom, or checking what a new table would look like in your living room are all possible using the special cameras and sensors (傳感器) of Tango smartphones.

  But it’s not all just about fun and games. Present location technology in smartphones isn’t 100 percent accurate, meaning navigating (導(dǎo)航) indoors is difficult, but Tango devices’ special sensors allow them to “see” any in-door space. It’s hoped that blind people will be able to use this technology to help them find their way around inside buildings.

  There are still problems with this, though, John Brownlee of Co. Design says, “Let’s say you need to direct a blind person to walk 50 feet in a straight line: How do you communicate to him or her what a foot is?” he wrote.
