閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個選項(A、B、C、D)中選出最佳選項,并在答題卡該項涂黑。

I was a bit of a bookworm as a child. For every car journey, day trip or family holiday, many books were always packed to keep me busy. Since then, I’ve continued reading all kinds of books but I’ll always love my childhood favorites.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-lime —Mark Haddon
This children’s mystery novel is interesting, exciting, thought-provoking(發(fā)人深思的),sad and happy all at the same time. The main character is a 15-year-old boy who has autism(自閉癥). The book gives you a window into his world, his thoughts, his hopes and his dreams. It’s easy to read and both kids and adults love it. A must-read in my opinion.
Secret Seven--- Enid Blyton
If you love adventures, this one is for you. The Secret Seven are a group of child detectives who make it their duty to solve crimes. They have many adventures along the way. Ifs a fun book that you won’t want to stop reading. And in fact, there is more than one book. There’s a series of books about the Secret Seven’s adventures so if you like the first one, you're in luck!
Matilda—Roald Dabl
It’s now a film and show at the theatre, but we can’t forget the original book. Matilda is about a loveable little girl who is very clever and, like me, loves to read. She goes to school and meets the very scary Miss Trunchbull who tortures (折磨) children, but thankfully makes friends with a kind teacher. The book will have you crying one moment and laughing the next.
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe—C.S. Lewis
As a kid I read the book, watched the film and listened to the tape. I really couldn’t get enough of the book. Ifs an exciting story set in a magical land called Narnia. When you’re reading it, you’ll feel like you’re really there. You’ll get caught up in the adventures of the four children and the characters they meet. I can’t rate it highly enough.
21. Which book tells some children detectives’ adventures?
A. Matilda.
B. Secret Seven.
C. The Lion the Wind and the Wardrobe.
D. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
22. What do we know about The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
A. It is scary but exciting and touching. B. It is made up of a series of stories.
C. It’s popular with adults as well as children. D. Its characters are strange but lovely.
23. What do Matilda and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe have in common?
A. Both are adventure-themed. B. Both have stage adaptations.
C. Both are based on true stories. D. Both have been made into movies.

Robots come in many shapes and sizes, but scientists in Zurich, Switzerland, have developed one that’s different from any other. Built in a lab at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, the new robot looks and acts just like a salamander(火蜥蜴). It’s called the Pleurobot, and scientists at the lab say that it’s one of the most realistic robotic animals ever made!
To create the robot, scientists took hundreds of X-rays of real salamanders. They studied the images of these animals (living both on land and in water) to see which joints (關(guān)節(jié)) and muscles the animals use as they move. Then the scientists built the Pleurobot’s framework to move just like the real thing. This makes the robot’s movements unbelievably lifelike.
According to experts, salamanders were among the first animals to develop a skeleton and nervous system that allowed them to travel on land. “By studying the modem salamander, we have a time window to the ancestors of all vertebrates (脊椎動物),including humans,” Auke Ijspeert, the leader of the team that designed the robot, told Scholastic News Online.
Both people and salamanders have a spinal cord (脊髓). An injury to the spinal cord can result in the inability to move. Currently, there is no cure for paralysis (癱瘓). Ijspeert hopes that the Pleurobot can help change that. Because everything about the robot is so accurate, Ijspeert’s team can study how its movement is affected by different electrical signals—signals that act similarly to the way the brain controls the spinal cord in humans. These studies could help researchers develop new ways to help people who have been paralyzed by spinal cord injuries.
Scientists think that the Pleurobot could also be used for search-and-rescue work too dangerous for humans. Because the robot is low to the ground and has a wide range of movement, it could be used to get into dangerous places, like fallen buildings, to look for survivors. Thanks to its specially made suit, the robotic salamander could even participate in underwater tasks.
Experts at the Swiss Federal Institute arc now working on a smaller, sturdier (harder to break) model of the Pleurobot. They expect this one to be even better suited for getting into small spaces to do dangerous work.
24. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. What inspired scientists to invent the Pleurobot. B. Why scientists developed the Pleurobot.
C. How scientists designed the Pleurobot. D. What the Pleurobot looks like.
25. What can we learn about the Pleurobot?
A. It can only be used for dangerous tasks. B. It is perfect and easy to control.
C. It has been accepted widely. D. It has a detailed design.
26. The text is most probably .
A. a news report B. a research paper

When people today talk about a tiny house, they probably mean the trendy living space that’s about the size of a shed (擁). But you would have to be five inches tall to live in the original tiny houses. Dollhouse(小房子),which have been around for several centuries, don’t offer shelter to real people, but they provide a vivid experience of life in times and places both real and imaginary.
The NationalBuildingMuseum in Washington, D.C., lets visitors time travel in this tiny world through “Small Stories: At Home in a Dollhouse,” an exhibit that opened Saturday. Visitors can see twelve dollhouses from the Victoria and AlbertMuseum in London, England, which contain amazing tiny furnishings. But those people who put together the exhibit also wanted visitors to know the characters inside.
“It’s 300 years of British homes told through their inhabitants (居民),” said Alice Sage, who is in charge of the London museum.
So as visitors look inside the Tate Baby House, a fancy townhouse from 1760, they can push a button to hear a young woman get a lecture from her mother on the proper way to run a home. In the Killer Cabinet house, a servant named Betsy complains about the problems of city life in the 1830s. “We’ve got the cat to keep the rats away,” she says.
That dollhouse was John Killer’s gift to his wife and five daughters. The girls were allowed to play with the house, but they probably also learned a few lessons, Sage said.
“The kitchen of the house would have been the perfect way to teach the girls about the management of a home,” she said, noting the tiny dishes and pots.
Those who prefer a more modern look won't be disappointed. There are two rooms displaying a white dollhouse from 1935, an apartment house from the 1960s and a brightly colored 21st-century design.
The end of the exhibit shows how imaginative design sometimes works best in small spaces.
The BuildingMuseum asked twenty-four artists, designers and architects from across the United States to each create a “dream room” from the past, present or future. Some of these unique small rooms were made using traditional furnishings, others from materials such as clay, insects, 3D-printing, and even Peeps marshmallow candies!
27. Which of the following were on show Saturday?
A. Some old shelters for poor people. B. A dozen dollhouses from England.
C. Some imaginary tiny furnishings. D. A couple of fashionable living spaces.
28. What is the function of the characters inside the Museum?
A. Working as organizers of the exhibit. B. Making the exhibit more attractive.
C. Providing good services for visitors. D. Helping visitors understand dollhouses.
29. What can we learn about the Killer Cabinet house?
A. It was made up of 24 tiny rooms. B. It was owned by a woman named Betsy.
C. Its history dates back to the 17th century. D. Its kitchen may have an educational purpose.
30. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A. To report a dollhouse show. B. To trace the history of dollhouses.
C. To show how to make a dollhouse. D. To attract people to visit dollhouses.

Spring and fall are usually thought to be enjoyable seasons. However, it is not always the case. 36 It makes people suffer a lot from it. Why can‘t they find a cure for the common cold? The answer is easy. There are actually hundreds of kinds of cold viruses out there. You never know which one you will get. 37
When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it. 38 You feel terrible because you can't breathe well, but your body is actually eating the virus. Your temperature goes up and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a runny nose to stop the virus from getting into your cells. You may feel very uncomfortable, but actually your wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold.
39 In China and some other countries, for example, some people might eat chicken soup to make themselves feel better. Some people take hot baths and drink warm liquids. Other people take medicine to stop various symptoms of colds.
There is one interesting thing to note—some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually bad for you. The virus stays in your body longer because your body doesn't have a way to fight it and kill it. 40 There is a joke, however, on taking medicine when you have a cold. It goes like this: It takes about one week to get over a cold if you don’t lake medicine, but it takes only seven days to get over a cold if you take medicine. So you should trust the function of your body.
A. Therefore, there isn’t a cure for each one.
B. Different people do different things to deal with the cold.
C. The first thing you need to come up with is an idea for your cold.
D. It is easy for many people to catch a cold in spring or fall.
E. Bodies can indeed do an amazing job on their own.
F. How much do you know about the various viruses in the world?
G. Blood rushes to your nose and causes a block in it.

C. It has been accepted widely. D. It has a detailed design.

A. a news report B. a research paper
