Lottery Does More Good than Harm
Nowadays, lottery is no longer a strange term to most Chinese. Some people buy national welfare lottery, sports lottery and soccer lottery from time to time. Though the chance of winning a fortune is very slim, buyers still go for it, because apart from grand prizes, lottery means something more, to the individuals and society alike.
On the one hand, lottery raises funds for public causes. For instance, billions of dollars are collected by welfare lottery each year, and go into the social security system in aiding the old, the poor, the disabled, and the orphaned. Therefore, lottery does not only benefit several "lucky dogs ", but more importantly, the country as a wbole. And on the other hand, buying lottery is fun for the individuals. The public appreciates tbe high odds against them, which makes lottery a kind of game.
Nevertheless, some people suspect that lottery leads to a gambling psychology. Indeed, some people may get addicted, or stay idle for "easy money". Luckily, they only constitute tbe minority. After all, lottery does more good than harm as long as it is dealt with properly.(185 words)

The Prevalence of Western HolidaysIt is noticeable that western holidays are becoming increasingly popular day by day, while Chinese traditional holidays are being somewhat neglected. Young people in China who are ignorant about Chinese traditional holidays are crazy about Christmas or Valentine's Day.
There are several possible reasons for this phenomenon. First, western nations, such as the United States and Britain, are powerful and dominant in every aspect. Everything in these countries is assumed to be superior and adored by some modern young people. Second, the prevalence of English as a world language and the development of globalization enable western culture to prevail in China. Last but not least, some Chinese people have blind faith in foreign things while treating our own possessions with contempt.
I am critical of this trend. China boasts a brilliant history and splendid traditions. Chinese tradition should be preserved and promoted. If this trend is allowed to continue, the priceless heritage of our ancestors will be replaced by western traditions. Nobody expects such a consequence. So let us join hand in hand to protect Chinese tradition, especially traditional holidays. (180 words)
